Carinualia is a series of work made in a collage of various materials assembled in order to be burned.
With this project I started to analyze the relationship between human cultures and fire, in particular, I focused on the analysis of certain carnival ceremonies of the Emilia Romagna countryside in Italy where fire takes on an extremely symbolic and at the same time playful role. The cremation of the masks represents the final moment of the carnival, in which the chaos of the celebrations leaves the village to return to the daily routine. I am fascinated by the ephemeral function of these structures built with scraps of work materials for the sole purpose of being burnt. So I decided to create three structures (posthumous prototypes, pp1, pp2, pp3) thinking of fire as one of the materials used for the collage to observe the various expressive phases of its passage. I burned the prototypes inside a white box in the sunlight to isolate them from other visual inputs and reduce the drama of the fire in contrast to the darkness in which the masks are usually burnt during carnival ceremonies.
The project has been published in the 10# edition of Some Magazine.
