Mappa di gesso, 10 Notti e Nove Tappeti Neri" (Plaster map 10 nights and 9 black carpets) is a low plaster relief obtained by casting different textures of objects and materials. This work is the second piece in the "Mappa di Gesso" series which has the legend as its subject. "the word Legend derives from the Latin "what is to be read".
In the context of a graph or a geographical map, it is the table in which the symbols or colors used are explained, the reading of which makes it possible to understand the graphic representation with greater certainty. The legend imposes itself on the diversity of possible readings of the image, directing the observer towards specific meanings.
In this map, the only reference to the legend is in the title which highlights the presence of 10 nights and nine black carpets on the map to underline the paradox of a limited index concerning the number of identifiable colors and the impossibility of distinguishing nights from carpets. This work represents one of my attempts to refer to the rhetorical figure of the Oxymoron in a material form.
